Pittenweem Pool and Fife Leader Funding
Yesterday the project received word that we have been successful in our application for funding from Fife Leader. Combined with funds the project has raised itself and money pledged by Fife Environment Trust, this means the restoration plan for the pool is fully funded and will be going ahead soon.
This is wonderful news for Pittenweem, as it will provide a unique and valuable facility for locals and visitors to enjoy, as well as attracting tourists to the area.
Below is a statement from David Thomson, Chair of The West Braes Project 07/05/2019:
"On behalf of the West Braes Project I would just like to announce that we have today received confirmation from Fife Leader that we have secured the final amount of funding needed to start the restoration of our beloved Pool project. The final amount from Fife Leader will be £218000 along with the £50000 already secured from Fife Environment Trust and £2000 coming from The West Braes Project. This gives us the £270000 needed for the project.
Many people from Pittenweem will never of heard of John Addison but I would like to take this opportunity to say a few words about him. John has been at the forefront of this for the last few years as our specialist in structural engineering. When we contacted John 3 years ago he jumped at the chance to work with the community to restore the pool as he had great vision in seeing it restored. John had worked on the pool for the last few years helping us secure the different funding pots needed to proceed with the project and attended meetings travelling down from his home near Banff at no cost to the project to help push through this last piece of funding. It is with great sadness that John passed away a few weeks ago just before our funding deadline. We were all devastated at the loss to the project but this made us even more determined to push on and succeed in John's memory.
I would also like to thank each and everyone of our volunteers who has had a hand in the process especially Bill and Pam Watson, Nicola Thomson, Caroline Blackler , Lynne Steen and Alison Graham. Also a big thank you to all who support the project.
Also councillors Bill Porteous and John Docherty."
